The Indian Premier League will see a host of great death bowlers this season, With a lot of them being deciding factors this season The Sporticle takes a look at the best of them playing in the IPL this season.
Dwayne Bravo – Honorable Mention
It’s unclear at this point whether Dwayne Bravo will actually feature in the Indian Premier League this season, One thing that can be said for sure is he will be dearly missed by the Yellow army, The West Indian has been pivotal in Csk’s rise over the years and his stats show exactly why he is so highly rated, Close to a 150 wickets in the IPL with a bowling economy of 8.39 after bowling most of his overs in the death is a feat to be admired. What Dwayne Bravo does really better than anyone else is vary his pace without giving it away, DJ Bravo you truly are a Champion!
5. Mohammad Shami
It’s all too often that when Shami plays for India his contributions for the team are not given due credit because of the presence of an imposing figure like Jasprit Bumrah, But truth be told he might be equally efficient in delivering the low full-toss as Jaspreet Bumrah, He Single handedly won Kings XI Punjab a match in the 2019 edition of the IPL against Delhi Capitals and is as effective in the powerplay as in the death overs. Here’s hoping we see another mesmerizing season from the 29 year old.
4. Jofra Archer
Name one bowler in International cricket right now that can incite as much fear in the minds of the batsman as Jofra Archer. The Barbados born fast-bowler exactly showed to the world what he can do in the Big Bash League and repeated it against the Aussies in the Ashes. What intrigues onlookers is the ease with which Jofra runs up to the crease as if it was meant to be poetry in motion, Whereas other bowlers go for the yorkers Archer relies on his into the pitch slower ones, And if the condition may permit a skull crushing bouncer, Just ask Steve Smith his Rajasthan Royals teammate and skipper as well).
3. Bhuvaneshwar Kumar
Talk about good controlled outside the off-stump yorkers and Bhuvaneshwar Kumar comes to mind. Sunrisers Hyderabad also have other contenders like Khaleel Ahmad and Siddharth Kaul that can give them decent breakthroughs but no one can do it quite like Bhuvaneshwar Kumar. His cognitive skills are criminally underrated and ever since his debut in 2013, His stats exactly show why, He has played 120 IPL matches, Taken 135 wickets and has an economy of only 7.24, Absolutely awe-inspiring.
2. Jasprit Bumrah
Whether you talk about toe crushing yorkers or the slower one that dips, He has it all figured out, India have rarely witnessed a more complete bowler than Jasprit Bumrah, You want a wicket up top, There he is, 10 runs required of the last over, you can trust him, His toe crushers have built this man quite a reputation and unsurprisingly so, Because the Master of this Apprentice is yorker king himself Lasith Malinga. Together they make Mumbai Indians one of the most lethal bowling attacks in world cricket.
1. Kagiso Rabada
What do you get when you put the most destructive finishers in the modern game up against KG Rabada? The answer is three dismantled stumps and two flying bails, That’s exactly what he did in last year’s super over contest against Andre Russell,Thereby clinching it for the Delhi Capitals. No wonder then that KG Rabada is touted as an able challenger for the Purple cap this season.
Please Note – Lasith Malinga has been ruled out of this years IPL otherwise would have made the list for sure.
