The Delhi Capitals thrashed Sunrisers Hyderabad in a mouth watering encounter with Marcus Stoinis proving to be a gamechanger.

Fans in general would have been forgiven to think that coming into this crucial knockout game the momentum had been ceased by the Sunrisers Hyderabad, Four wins on the bounce coupled with Trevor Bayliss, Who has the experience of taking his team to the finishing line in 2014 with the Kolkata Knight Riders. Delhi Capitals certainly looked pale in comparison considering their recent downturn in fortune to go with their instability at the top of the order, All of that changed on Sunday however.

Winning the toss Delhi Capitals opted to bat first and surprise surprise ! It was Marcus Stoinis at the top, The Australian certainly has prior experience after all he opens for Melbourne Stars and was their Leading run scorer in the 2020 Big Bash League. Stoinis and Dhawan put up a flawless display of batting completing a 50 run partnership within the powerplay without much hassle. Sunrisers Hyderabad did not really help themselves with dropped catches and misfields to go along with clueless bowling. Rashid Khan pulled back the innings with his 1/24 in 4 overs but was unable to prevent  Delhi Capitals from getting beyond 180. In reply SRH’s hopes were dented early on when they lost David Warner in the second over to a classic Kagiso Rabada yorker, It was an uphill battle from there on in with Manish Pandey and Priyam Garg departing within the powerplay. Kane Williamson did put up a fight with a valiant half century but it was a lone battle that ended in heartache.

A few notable performances came from Kagiso Rabada who picked up three wickets in the penultimate over of the match as well as Abdul Samad with a late surge of boundaries that might have had Ricky Ponting (DC Head coach) a tad bit nervous at one point along with a brilliant display of death bowling by T Natarajan against world class finishers like Rishabh Pant and Shimron Hetmyer.

The Delhi Capitals now face the prospect of playing their first ever final against Mumbai Indians in Dubai on Tuesday, Mumbai Indians would be considered favorites for obvious reasons but all it takes is for a player like Stoinis or Rabada to have a great day and the title is there for the taking.
